Character
Character Name: Hanako Ikezawa
Canon: Katawa Shoujo
Age: 17-18. Few mentions are made of a canon age, but we can generally assume this is her range as not only does she experience a birthday in-game, but details towards the end of her and Lilly's routes suggests she's prepping for life after high-school.
Appearance: Canon art sample. The scars actually cover most of her body. It's just most of her body isn't very visible most of the time due to how she dresses.
Canon Point: Near the end of her route, after she and Hisao have slept together.
History: There unfortunately isn't much online besides what is detailed on her official profile, which gives you the basic gist of things. More spoilery details follow...

Hanako was involved in an accident when she was very young, a house fire that killed both of her parents. Her mother wound up sacrificing herself in order to save the young Hanako, but she still managed to end up badly scarred by the flame. With little else to do with her, she was sent to an orphanage where she grew up incredibly self-conscious about her appearance. It was here she developed a complex about her own birthday, resenting it as it, to her, stood as a symbol of the refusal of the world to just let her die, and instead celebrate her unwanted life.

In middle school, she was bullied about her scars, further cementing her social anxiety disorder. It wasn't until her physical disability allowed her enrollment in Yamaku Academy (with her tuition supposedly being payed for by the orphanage that housed her) that she met a blind girl named Lilly Satou. For what should be obvious reasons, the two became exceptionally close. This leads up to the events of the game itself, where she meets Hisao, the player character. The rest of her history depends largely on how the player goes through the story, though since I am pulling her from her own route, it will be assumed that she has a romantic interest in Hisao, should one ever app.
AU History: n/a

Personality: The most immediate thing people note about Hanako is that she is extremely withdrawn. She spends most of her time alone, reading, and never participates in group activities in school (or at least didn't until Hisao came along). Her social anxiety stems, largely, from her physical appearance, even if it never really seemed to be an issue among her peers at Yamaku. She is reclusive almost entirely out of habbit now, and finds herself actually preferring it. If any social company is had, she spends it with Lilly or Hisao. Sometimes others are involved, but it's a very rare occasion.

In spite of this, Hanako resents being treated as fragile. This is something that her teachers and therapist seem to understand, but not necessarily her peers. Special treatment, white-knighting, all of that kind of stuff bothers her immensely. It feels like pity, like she's being handled like a child. In fact, perpetuating this leads rather firmly to a Bad End in her route should the player persist in it. The feeling of being weak and helpless factors into another aspect of her personality, and also relates back to her social anxiety.

Hanako is prone to bouts of depression, oftentimes so severe that she doesn't even leave her room for days except to eat. These are most apparent around the time of her birthday, for reasons previously explained. All of these factors tend to mix together with dramatic and frightening results, in once instance leading to her suffering a severe panic attack during her route. However, when much of these pressures are absent, when she is allowed to cope with the world around her by herself, she actually becomes much better adjusted. It is worth noting that, either in an effort to illustrate Hisao's influences in her route or to not pull focus form Lilly, in Lilly's route, Hanako will become better socially adjusted without Hisao's interference in her life. She even joins the newspaper club, making friends there.

Generally, though, Hanako seems at her most peaceful, even happy, when she's playing games. These were her coping mechanisms ever since she was a child. Chess, in particular, stands out as a favorite of hers. It allows her to focus on something, an object and goal, and the smaller actions needed to achieve that goal. Approaching her school work, or even her life, with this same sort of logic, and the small but important steps she needs, help her adjust to not only Hisao's romantic interest in her, but the world at large.

Abilities: n/a

Payment to Yubaba
Memory: The names of her parents. The name of Yamaku Academy. Her preferred Chess strategy. How she met Lilly. How she met Hisao. Her birthday gifts (from her route, an antique doll and chess set). The date of her birthday (but not the associated trauma that shapes her character). The scene leading up to the trigger of her panic attack in her route (but not the attack itself). The fact that she is seeing a therapist about her social anxiety. What Lilly looks like (but not her name or her importance).
New Name: 艾, taken from her name 華子. It reads as "Yomogi" (よもぎ)

Samples
First Person: Linked sample
Third Person: Hanako ducked into one of the hallways, quickly and without sound. Not that she was trying to sneak around, it was just... Even among the youkai and gods that used the bathhouse, she still hated to be seen by so many people at once. She needed to get past the crowd to get to the next tub to be cleaned, but... They were all there, talking among themselves. And it would be impossible for her to go by them unseen. She bit her lip, the whole situation grinding at her nerves.

But if she didn't get to the bath in time... She'd get yelled at again... A rock and a hard place, really. Both situations were horrible. She was nearly tearing up even just thinking about it. But of course, it was in that momentary blur of vision that she noticed something... Another worker going past. One who wore a patch over their eye. Oddly enough, the same side that Hanako would walk alongside to hide her scars. An escape route...

She quickly took file alongside the coworker, moving at their brisk pace without saying anything. The other works had become familiar enough with Hanako to realize this wasn't exactly unusual behavior for her. They said nothing back to her. After all, some things didn't get easier with time...

"I'm sorry, excuse us," she spoke in a near whisper as they walked past the chattering crowd. They didn't even notice they were there. But in Hanako's mind, all of them had immediately started staring at her. "I-I... Ivegottogodosomething!" Hanako took off in a run down the hallway, straight to the bath she needed to scrub... The humiliation tugging at her heart like a meat-hook.
